FREMONT, CA: In order to allow developers to build applications that can see and understand the content of images, Google launches Cloud Vision API, which will help create all types of applications reports Chris Kanaracus for ZDNet.

Google Cloud Vision API uses machine learning models that understand the content of the image and then classify them into a number of categories. The new API from Google allows developers to build metadata on image catalog and enable new marketing scenarios through image sentiment analysis. It features image analysis that identifies individual objects and faces within images; image sentiment analysis that analyzes emotional facial attributes of people in images and detects text within the images.

Additionally, it offers entity detection by pointing out the dominant entity in an image to create metadata enabling image based searches; safe search detection eliminating inappropriate content in an image; landmark and logo detection to identify structures ad well as product logos in an image.

Google Cloud Vision API can be used for e-commerce sites, social media and other enterprises to contextualize work using the facial detection attribute for example by delaying the delivery of new emails at times where the receiver is showing stress.
