FREMONT, CA: Aiven, a startup that integrates the open-source technologies with cloud infrastructure, has closed it's Series B funding worth $40 million. The funding round was led by Silicon Valley-based IVP, who has undertaken many notable investments.

The existing investors of the Aiven, Earlybird VC and Lifeline Ventures along with the family offices of Risto Siilasmaa, chairman of Nokia, and Olivier Pomel, the Founder of Datadog, also actively participated in the Series B funding round. Aiven has raised a total fund of $50 million to date. The startup plans to utilize the collected funds to add new partnerships, innovations, and integrations.

“This investment is evidence of a growing appetite from enterprises for open source data technologies,” said Oskari Saarenmaa, CEO and co-founder at Aiven. “Aiven is able to close that gap by offering a platform that abstracts away all the complexities of operating those technologies so our customers can focus on their business applications and driving the bottom-line. With the new funding, we’ll be able to expand our product roadmap and work more closely with our customers globally to help them utilize open source technologies at scale.”

Aiven also has plans of tripling the headcount of the employees with the proceeds of the funding. Furthermore, bringing in newer open source technologies such as M3, Flink, and introducing the latest enterprise-grade features is on the priority list of improvements fuelled by the investments.

The Series B fund will enable Aiven to upgrade its cloud services for the existing and new customers. At the same time, it continues to empower developers to remain attentive to their core offerings rather than the underlying infrastructure.

Aiven mainly concentrates on democratizing access to the latest open source technologies by providing fully-managed services in several popular open-source projects. These popular open source projects in the public cloud include Apache Kafka, Cassandra, Elastic Search, M3, and PostgreSQL. At present, Aiven serves more than 500 businesses worldwide, including Atlassian, Comcast, OVO Energy, and Toyota, and is also available on all the major clouds. The Funding VC, IVP's general partner Eric Liaw will be joining the board of directors of Aiven soon.
